Bill overview
The U.S. Engagement in Sudanese Peace Act requires the U.S. to impose sanctions on foreign individuals and entities involved in genocide, war crimes, blocking humanitarian aid, or violating an arms embargo in Sudan. It authorizes the Department of State to provide assistance for a multinational force to protect civilians and facilitate humanitarian operations, while prohibiting the sale of major defense equipment to countries supporting the Sudanese Armed Forces or Rapid Support Forces. The bill also extends the Special Envoy for Sudan’s position and directs the government to advocate for unimpeded humanitarian access and documentation of atrocities. Finally, it establishes a strategy for supporting a peaceful resolution and empowering Sudanese women and youth.
