Bill overview
This bill directs the Department of Transportation to study how driver-controlled technology, particularly touch screen systems, impacts traffic safety, including severe injuries and fatalities involving pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vulnerable road users. The study will compare the risks of using touch screen systems to smartphone use while driving. Based on the study’s findings, the Secretary will report to Congress and recommend changes to data collection methods and potentially new regulations to reduce traffic accidents.
