Bill overview
This bill aims to improve veteran employment services by consolidating programs currently overseen by the Department of Labor (DOL) and transferring them to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Specifically, it moves job counseling, training, placement services, federal employment services, administration of employment rights, and homeless veterans reintegration programs to the VA. The bill also establishes an Office of the Deputy Under Secretary for Veterans Economic Opportunity and Transition to oversee these efforts and modifies state responsibilities regarding veteran employment specialists, expanding their roles. A joint study will be conducted by the VA and DOL to assess the transfer’s implementation and effectiveness.
