Bill overview
This bill creates a new tax credit, the Energy Burden Credit, to help low- and middle-income households manage energy costs. The credit is 75% of qualified energy expenses, but only if those expenses exceed 3% of the taxpayer’s adjusted gross income. The credit is capped at $1,500 for individuals and $3,000 for joint returns, with an income limit of $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers. The credit is set to expire at the end of 2027.
