Bill overview
This bill, the Expedited Appeals Review Act (EARA), aims to speed up the review process for appeals of decisions made by the Department of the Interior. It allows parties filing appeals to request an expedited review from the Interior Board of Land Appeals, requiring the Board to issue a final decision within six months of receiving the request, though not earlier than 18 months after the initial appeal was filed. If the Board doesn’t meet this deadline, the Department’s decision is considered final and can be reviewed by a court without any prior deference to the agency’s original decision. The bill applies to both existing and future appeals.
