Bill overview
The Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act aims to give the Department of Energy (DOE) more flexibility in setting energy conservation standards for appliances. It allows the DOE to amend standards when they cause excessive costs to consumers, don't significantly conserve energy, or aren't technologically feasible, and establishes stricter disclosure requirements for meetings with certain entities. The bill also prohibits the DOE from setting new standards for distribution transformers and includes provisions to ensure economic analysis and consumer interests are prioritized when determining standards.
