Bill overview
This bill, the Destruction of Hazardous Imports Act, expands the ability of the Secretary of Health and Human Services to order the destruction of imported goods that pose a significant risk to public health. It amends existing law to allow for the destruction of a broader range of items, including drugs and devices, that are refused entry into the United States. The bill also prohibits the movement or introduction of these items into interstate commerce. The changes will take effect 180 days after the bill’s passage, and the Secretary will need to update regulations to reflect the new authority.
