Bill overview
The Rural Broadband Modernization Act aims to expand access to high-speed internet in rural areas of the United States. It does this by increasing funding for grants, loans, and loan guarantees to help rural communities build or improve their broadband infrastructure. The bill also updates the definition of ‘rural area’ and establishes a process for prioritizing grant applications to ensure that underserved communities receive the most assistance. It seeks to deliver at least 100 Mbps symmetrical speeds to rural households.
