Bill overview
This bill, the VA Bonus and Relocation Recovery Act, aims to allow the Department of Veterans Affairs to recover bonus and relocation expenses previously awarded to former employees under certain circumstances. Specifically, if a former employee fails to repay an award or bonus ordered to be repaid by the Secretary within 180 days of a final decision by the Director, the Department can pursue debt collection in the same manner as any other debt owed to the United States. The bill amends existing sections of Title 38 to include former employees in the scope of recoupment authority. This legislation seeks to ensure accountability for improperly awarded benefits.
