Bill overview
The Perinatal Workforce Act aims to expand and diversify the healthcare professionals involved in maternal and perinatal care. It directs the Department of Health and Human Services to issue guidance to states on how to encourage diverse care teams, including midwives, nurses, and dietitians, and to prioritize recruitment and retention of providers from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. The bill also establishes grant programs to support the growth of these professions and conducts a study on best practices for culturally and linguistically congruent care, alongside a GAO report on barriers to access.
