Bill overview
Tyler’s Law aims to improve the response to opioid overdoses by directing the Department of Health and Human Services to study and provide guidance on fentanyl testing in hospital emergency departments. The bill requires a study to assess the frequency, costs, benefits, and risks of fentanyl testing, as well as its impact on patient privacy and the doctor-patient relationship. Based on the study’s findings, the HHS Secretary will issue guidance to hospitals on whether to implement fentanyl testing as a routine procedure and how to ensure proper communication with patients and staff.
