Bill overview
The 9–8–8 Connect Act aims to improve access to and support for individuals experiencing mental health crises. It will provide grants to crisis centers to offer follow-up services to people who have contacted the 9–8–8 suicide and crisis lifeline, including check-ins, outreach, and referrals to appropriate care. Additionally, the bill directs the Federal Communications Commission to ensure all calls and texts to 9–8–8 are transmitted and mandates that multi-line telephone systems be configured to include 9–8–8 alongside 9–1–1 for emergency dialing.
