Bill overview
The Freedom of Association in Higher Education Act of 2025 aims to protect students’ rights to form and join social organizations, including single-sex groups, at colleges and universities. It prohibits institutions receiving federal student aid from taking adverse actions against these organizations or their members based solely on the practice of limiting membership to one sex. The bill also prevents institutions from imposing restrictions on single-sex organizations that aren't applied to other student groups unless agreed upon in writing.
