Bill overview
The Raising Awareness for Youth Suicide Prevention Act (RAYS Act) requires schools to include mental health and suicide prevention resources on student identification cards. Specifically, cards must provide contact information for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, the Crisis Text Line, and any state or local suicide prevention hotline. Schools that don’t issue ID cards must prominently display this information online and on student-used computer platforms. The bill also allows for the inclusion of additional mental health resources and directs the Department of Education to conduct outreach campaigns to promote these resources to students, parents, and staff.
