Bill overview
The Diplomatic Reserve Corps Act of 2026 establishes a new system within the Department of State to provide a reserve of trained personnel for diplomatic service. This corps will consist of four elements: a Senior Diplomatic Reserve, a Senior Diplomatic Retiree Reserve, a Diplomatic Reserve, and a Diplomatic Retiree Reserve. The Secretary of State will administer the corps, coordinating its activities with the Foreign Service, and the Director General of the Foreign Service will assist in management. The bill also addresses appointments, compensation, and eligibility criteria for members, including establishing authorized strengths and aligning salary scales with those of the Foreign Service.
