Bill overview
This bill, the Counting Aluminum Net Surplus Act of 2026 (CANS Act), directs the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a comprehensive study on aluminum recycling practices in the United States. The study will assess the amount of aluminum currently being disposed of in landfills, identify key trends in aluminum exports, and recommend policies to increase domestic recycling rates and reduce reliance on foreign sources. The findings of this study will be reported to Congress every three years to inform future recycling initiatives.
