Bill overview
The AI-Ready Bio-Data Standards Act directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to establish definitions, standards, resources, and frameworks to ensure biological datasets generated by federally funded research are ‘AI-ready’ – meaning they can be effectively used for training artificial intelligence models and advancing biotechnology research. The bill also establishes an advisory group to provide guidance, inventories existing biotechnology standards, and creates mechanisms for federal agencies to request assistance in developing data standards for AI training. Finally, it mandates NIST to test and evaluate these standards and requires revisions to the Federal Acquisition Regulation.
