Bill overview
Lulu’s Law aims to improve public safety by allowing the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to send wireless emergency alerts (WEAs) to mobile phones in the event of a shark attack. Currently, WEAs are used for emergencies like severe weather and missing children, but this bill would specifically include shark attacks as a trigger. The FCC is required to issue an order within 180 days of the bill’s passage to formally authorize the transmission of WEAs for this purpose. This would provide coastal communities with a faster way to warn people of potential danger.
