Bill overview
The FAST Housing Act aims to address workforce and affordable housing shortages by establishing a demonstration program. The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development will award grants to local governments and public housing agencies in areas experiencing significant workforce growth. These grants can be used to streamline zoning regulations, reduce barriers to development, and create or rehabilitate housing units, with a minimum of 30% dedicated to affordable housing. The program will also include a study to evaluate its effectiveness and utilize available COVID-19 relief funds.
