Bill overview
The FETCH Act of 2026 amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act to allow the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to be used for funding police dog programs. Specifically, this bill expands the types of expenses that can be covered, including the acquisition and training of police dogs, veterinary care, equipment, housing, and even costs associated with a dog’s retirement and eventual adoption. This would provide more resources to law enforcement agencies for utilizing canine units in their work.
