Bill overview
This bill creates a program within the USDA to help rural water and wastewater systems improve their cybersecurity defenses. The Cybersecurity for Rural Water Systems Act will establish a ‘circuit rider’ program, modeled after existing USDA programs, that provides technical assistance to these systems. This assistance will include assessing current cybersecurity readiness, developing protective protocols, and creating or updating cybersecurity plans. The program is funded with $10 million annually for five years.
