Bill overview
The Stop Madness Act aims to increase U.S. pressure on foreign governments and individuals involved in facilitating unlawful immigration and obstructing the repatriation of U.S. citizens who have entered the country without authorization. It allows the President to impose economic sanctions on countries or entities that refuse to cooperate with repatriation efforts or actively assist in unlawful immigration. The bill also establishes reporting requirements for the executive branch and provides for penalties for those who violate its provisions. The President can waive sanctions if it’s deemed to be in the national security interest of the United States.
