Bill overview
The Emerging Innovative Border Technologies Act directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop a plan for identifying, integrating, and deploying new technologies to enhance U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) capabilities at borders and ports of entry. This plan must consider existing CBP Innovation Teams, explore technologies used by other federal agencies, and assess potential impacts on privacy, civil rights, and security. It also requires the Department to coordinate with various offices and the private sector to leverage emerging technologies and ensure responsible AI use. The plan must include cost-benefit analysis before large-scale deployments.
