Bill overview
The ERASER Act aims to reduce the number of federal regulations by requiring agencies to repeal three existing rules before issuing a new one. For ‘major rules’ – those with significant economic or societal impacts – agencies must also demonstrate that the cost of the new rule is no more than the cost of the rules being repealed. The bill also mandates a report from the Government Accountability Office on the total number and cost of existing regulations.
