Bill overview
The Open App Markets Act aims to increase competition and reduce the power of large technology companies, often called "gatekeepers," in the app economy. It prohibits app stores from requiring developers to use their in-app payment systems, forcing users to use their payment systems, or taking punitive action against developers for using alternative payment methods. The bill also seeks to ensure interoperability between operating systems and app stores, and to prevent app stores from unfairly favoring their own apps in search results.
