Bill overview
The PEAKS Act aims to ensure continued access to critical care services in rural and mountainous areas of the United States. It modifies the requirements for hospitals designated as Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) to account for challenging terrain and road distances. Specifically, it provides a pathway for CAHs that previously met certain distance requirements to maintain that designation, and it adjusts the distance requirements for ambulance services provided by these hospitals, particularly in areas with limited road access.
