Bill overview
This bill directs the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to test a new payment model for blood transfusions given to hospice patients. Currently, these transfusions are bundled into the standard hospice payment rate. The goal is to determine if paying for transfusions separately would improve patient care and potentially reduce hospital stays. The CMMI will compare patients in the new model with similar patients not participating to assess the impact on various healthcare metrics.
