Bill overview
The ASSIST Act aims to improve access to mental health and substance use disorder services in schools by increasing federal support for these services. Specifically, it increases the federal matching rate for Medicaid payments to schools and school-based health centers that provide these services to 90%. The bill also establishes a grant program to help schools and other educational institutions hire more mental health and substance use disorder professionals. This will help address the critical need for these services within the student population.
