Bill overview
The First Responders Wellness Act aims to improve mental health support for first responders and their families. It establishes a national 24/7 mental health hotline staffed by trained peer specialists to provide immediate support and referrals. The bill also expands the Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program to include emergency response providers after major disasters and requires the Department of Health and Human Services to develop recommendations for a mobile health care delivery site to offer crisis services during emergencies. Finally, it mandates training for 988 Lifeline personnel on the specific needs of first responders.
