Bill overview
This bill reauthorizes and expands programs to compensate individuals exposed to radiation during nuclear testing or uranium mining, and those living downwind of atmospheric tests. It extends the eligible dates for atmospheric exposure, authorizes compensation for combined uranium mining work histories, includes core drilling as a qualifying mining occupation, and increases compensation amounts. The bill also expands coverage to individuals in specific Alaskan, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee areas affected by Manhattan Project waste, extends claim filing deadlines, and addresses occupational illness compensation for former Department of Energy employees. Finally, it establishes a grant program for research on the health impacts of uranium mining.
