The SAFE HIRE Act aims to strengthen employer accountability for verifying the employment eligibility of workers. It requires the principal executive officer and principal human resources officer of publicly traded companies to certify annually that their employment practices comply with federal law and that their internal controls are effective in preventing the use of fraudulent documentation. The bill also establishes criminal penalties for knowingly false certifications and requires the SEC to create rules for including these certifications in annual reports and ensuring public availability.
