Bill overview
This bill, the Forest Legacy Management Flexibility Act, amends the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978 to broaden the types of organizations that can participate in the Forest Legacy Program. Specifically, it allows states to approve qualified organizations – such as land trusts – to acquire, hold, and manage conservation easements on forestland. The bill also establishes criteria for these organizations, including accreditation by a recognized land trust accreditation body, and outlines conditions under which the state or another qualified organization could reclaim the easement if the original organization fails to meet program requirements.
