Bill overview
This bill directs the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to develop voluntary guidelines for election officials on how to use and manage the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The EAC will consult with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to create these guidelines, which will address cybersecurity risks, the spread of misinformation, and the sharing of accurate election information. Furthermore, the bill requires the EAC to conduct a study on the use of AI in the 2024 elections and update its guidelines based on the study’s findings.
