Bill overview
This bill, the REPORT Act, requires several federal agencies – including Homeland Security, Justice, the FBI, and the National Counterterrorism Center – to submit reports to Congress whenever an act of terrorism occurs in the United States. These reports, to be released publicly, would detail the facts of the event, identify any security gaps, and offer recommendations for preventing future attacks. The reporting requirement will last for five years and allows for the withholding of information that could hinder ongoing investigations.
