Bill overview
The Immigration Enforcement Identification Safety Act (IEIS Act) requires immigration enforcement officers to visibly display their identification – including their last name, a unique identifier, and their employer’s name – while conducting immigration enforcement activities. It also aims to protect these officers and their families by providing access to privacy-enhancing services and reimbursing them for the costs associated with these services. The bill establishes a clear definition of ‘immigration enforcement function’ and includes exceptions for specific tactical operations and situations requiring face coverings. Finally, it ensures the press and public can report on misconduct and disclosures related to covered employees.
