Overview
The Pursuing Equity in Mental Health Act aims to address disparities in mental healthcare for youth, particularly those from racial and ethnic minority groups. It does this primarily by modifying grant programs within the Public Health Service Act to give special consideration to organizations serving these communities, and by establishing a research study to identify gaps in understanding mental health disparities. The bill also promotes the inclusion of mental health competencies in health professions training and mandates the development of an outreach and education strategy to reduce stigma and improve access to culturally appropriate care.
