Bill overview
The Wall Street Tax Act of 2025 proposes a new tax on ‘covered transactions’ involving securities and derivatives. This tax would start at 0.02% for transactions after December 31, 2025, and gradually increase to 0.1% over time. The tax applies to purchases of securities on qualified exchanges or by US persons, as well as to certain derivative transactions involving US persons. It also extends the tax to controlled foreign corporations, allocating tax liability based on shareholder ownership. The bill aims to capture profits from trading activities on Wall Street.
