This bill, the Livestock Indemnity Program Enhancement Act of 2025, expands the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) to provide compensation to livestock producers for losses of unborn livestock. Specifically, it allows producers to receive payments for the death of livestock that were gestating on the date of the original livestock’s death, starting January 1, 2024. LIP is a Farm Service Agency program that assists farmers and growers who experience losses due to events like adverse weather or disease. The payments will be calculated based on a percentage of the lowest weight class of livestock, adjusted for the number of animals born.
