Bill overview
This bill, the Microplastics Safety Act, directs the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a comprehensive study on the potential health effects of microplastic exposure in food and water. The study will investigate how people are exposed to microplastics, and how these exposures might impact children’s health, the endocrine system, cancer risk, chronic illnesses, and reproductive health. Based on the study’s findings, the FDA will submit a report to Congress with recommendations for further action to protect public health.
