Bill overview
The GOSAFE Act aims to regulate gas-operated semi-automatic firearms and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices to reduce gun violence. It prohibits the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, and possession of these firearms and devices, with exceptions for certain types of rifles and shotguns. The bill also establishes a process for the Attorney General to create a list of prohibited gas-operated semi-automatic firearms and allows for the use of Byrne grant funds to support buy-back programs for surrendered firearms. Finally, it introduces a system for approving firearm designs to prevent prohibited modifications.
