Overview
This bill, the Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act of 2025, permanently bans the slaughter of horses and mules for human consumption. Currently, federal law prohibits the slaughter of dogs and cats for this purpose, and this bill extends that prohibition to equines. It makes it illegal to slaughter, transport, sell, or donate equines for human consumption or to ship equine parts for human consumption. Violators will be subject to fines.
