Bill overview
This bill, the Fair SHARE Act of 2025, introduces new excise taxes on the sale of electric vehicles and battery modules. Electric vehicles will be subject to a $1,000 tax, while battery modules weighing over 1,000 pounds will be taxed at $550. The revenue collected from these taxes will be transferred to the Highway Trust Fund, which supports surface transportation projects. Hybrid vehicles are exempt from these new taxes.
