Bill overview
The Axing Nonmarket Tariff Evasion Act (ANTE Act) aims to combat the evasion of tariffs imposed on goods from nonmarket economy countries. It authorizes the U.S. Trade Representative to investigate entities that may be avoiding these tariffs by investing in third countries. If evasion is confirmed, the Trade Representative can then impose remedial measures, such as tariffs on goods produced in those third countries by the evading entity, potentially mirroring the duties originally applied to the nonmarket economy country. This legislation provides the Trade Representative with greater tools to address unfair trade practices.
