Bill overview
This bill, known as the DEFENSE Act, allows the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or the Department of Justice (DOJ) to train and deputize state and local law enforcement officers to take action against drones posing a threat to public gatherings. Specifically, officers can identify, track, warn, disrupt, or disable drones at events with temporary flight restrictions, large public gatherings, or other protected locations. The bill also establishes oversight procedures and limits the equipment used to those on a designated list.
