Bill overview
The Tax Fairness for Survivors Act amends the Internal Revenue Code to exclude payments received as a result of judgments, awards, or settlements related to sexual assault or sexual harassment claims from an individual’s gross income. This includes back pay, front pay, attorney’s fees, and any payments made to resolve or settle such claims. The bill also adjusts related tax codes, such as those for social security, railroad retirement, unemployment, wage withholding, and clarifies that these exclusions apply to employees.
