Bill overview
This bill extends the authority granted to the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to combat the threat of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as drones. Specifically, it extends the existing Counter-UAS authority until September 30, 2028, allowing these agencies to continue developing and implementing strategies to protect critical infrastructure and assets from drone-related risks. The bill focuses on maintaining and enhancing the government’s ability to regulate and respond to the use of drones for potentially harmful purposes. It does not create new authority, but rather extends existing provisions.
