Bill overview
This bill, the USPS Act, directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate nationwide theft of mail and property belonging to the United States Postal Service. The GAO will then submit reports to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. These reports will detail theft patterns, assess the Postal Service’s current efforts to combat theft, and offer recommendations for improvement. The GAO will also consult with the Postal Service’s and Postal Inspection Service’s Inspectors General during this process.
