Bill overview
This bill, the Strengthening Protections for Domestic Violence and Stalking Survivors Act of 2025, expands federal restrictions on firearms and ammunition to include individuals convicted of misdemeanor stalking offenses, those subject to domestic violence protection orders restraining them from harassing or threatening dating partners, and those who commit misdemeanor domestic violence against a dating partner’s child. The bill also clarifies the definition of ‘intimate partner’ to encompass dating relationships and expands the definition of ‘misdemeanor crime of domestic violence’ to include offenses against a dating partner’s child. Finally, it establishes a new prohibition for misdemeanor stalking offenses that cause reasonable fear of harm or emotional distress.
