Bill overview
The SWIFT Act amends the Social Security Act to increase survivors benefits for disabled widows, widowers, and surviving divorced spouses at any age. Specifically, it removes age restrictions on eligibility for unreduced benefits, eliminates reductions in benefit amounts for those claiming before retirement age, and provides a mechanism for increased benefit amounts for delayed claims. Additionally, the bill adjusts the child’s age limit for child-in-care benefits and includes provisions for holding current beneficiaries harmless from any impact on their eligibility for other programs. Finally, it mandates the Social Security Administration to publish informational materials for these beneficiaries.
