Bill overview
The Safer Detention Act of 2025 amends existing law to expand eligibility for and provide judicial review of the Elderly Home Detention Pilot Program. Specifically, it allows a court to substitute a term of supervised release with home detention for elderly, nonviolent offenders who have exhausted their administrative appeals regarding home detention requests. The bill also extends the timeframe for judicial review and makes technical corrections to related sections concerning compassionate release and sentencing reductions.
